Ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS)
is a white crystallized powder. Soluble in water.Decomposes slowly
and liberates oxygen when meeting moisture.Decomposes completely
when heated at 120degree C,and liberates amount of oxygen gas heat.Specific
gravity:1.982,it is used as initiator for the polymerisation of
monomers and as a strong oxidizing agent in many application. Ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS)
has the particular advantage of being almost non-hygroscopic, of
having a particularly good storage stability as a result of its
extremely high purity and of being easy and safe to handle.

of AMMONIUM
PERSULFATE (AMMONIUM PERSULPHATE, APS) |
Ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS)
is
a suitable initiaor for the emulsion or solution polymerisation
of acrylic monomers, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride etc. and for
the emulsion copolymerisation of styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene
etc.. Ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS)
is also a kind of oxidizing agent:
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is used
in cleaning and pickling of metal surfaces and in accelerated curing
of low formaldehyde adhesives.
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is used
in modification of starch, production of binders and coating materials.
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is used
as desizing agent and bleach activator and as an essential component
of bleaching formulations for hair cosmetics.
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is
used to produce persulfates, and to produce aniline dyes, and as
oxidation chromogenic agent of vat dyes.
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is used
in the surface treatment of oxidized metals, and in the organic synthesis
industry, as initiator of macromolecular polymerization.and
used
in the decoloring and bleaching of oil, cleaning and deodorization
of deteriorated barm, as ripener of wheat.
ammonium
persulfate (ammonium persulphate, APS) is used
as additive for under-well fracturing in petroleum exploitation. |

Safety Data Sheets of AMMONIUM PERSULFATE (AMMONIUM PERSULPHATE,
APS)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 1 -CHEMICAL PRODUCT
Synonyms: Ammonium Peroxydisulfate
CAS#: 7727-54-0
DOT Hazard Class: Oxidizer UN 1444
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 2 -COMPOSITION AND INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Ammonium Persulfate 99%
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 3 -HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: White odorless crystals. Irritant to eyes, skin
and respiratory system.
It is an oxidizer and will liberate oxygen to support and intensify
fire. Keep away from reducing agents.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
Inhalation: May cause irritation or slight burning sensation to
the respiratory tract.
Skin & Eyes: May cause irritation and redness.
Ingestion: Will cause discomfort.
Carcinogenicity: Not listed under OSHA,IARC, or NTP.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 4 -FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes:Immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes lifting
upper and lower lids
Intermittently: See a physician.
Skin: Wash with large amounts of water,if irritation persists, obtain
medical attention.
Inhalation: Remove subject to fresh air. If breathing difficulty
occurs,call a physician.
Ingestion: If swallowed, drink 1 or 2 glasses of water and induce
vomiting by touching the back of the throat with a finger or giving
syrup of ipecac. Do not induce vomiting or give anything by mouth
to an unconscious person.Call a physician.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 5 -FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flash Point: Non combustible
Flammable Limits: Non-combustible
Extinguishing Media: Deluge with water.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Do not use carbon dioxide or
other gas-filled fire extinguishers; they will have no effect
on decomposing persulfates. Wear full protective clothing and
self-contained breathing apparatus.
Unusual Fire Explosion Hazard: Decomposes when heated with liberation
of oxygen, which may intensify fire. In the presence of moisture,
it also accelerates decomposition.
Auto Ignition Temperature: Non combustible
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 6 -ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Isolate hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary or unprotected
personnel. Contain spill, sweep up,collect and place in a disposal
container.Avoek runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead
to waterways.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 7 -HANDLING AND STORAGE
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing dust.
Use normal personal hygiene and
housekeeping. Store in cool dry area away from other incompatible
materials,radiant heaters and
steam pipes. Product is slightly hydroscopic and should be stored
in a dry area to prevent moisture
pick up and caking.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 8 -EXPOSURE CONTROLS,PERSONAL PROTECTION
Respiratory protection: If dusty, use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirators.
Ventilation requirements: Ventilate as necessary to eliminate
dust from the work area.
Skin and eye protection: Use rubber or neoprene gloves, chemical
goggles and clothing sufficient to protect skin from dust.
Work, hygienic practices: As required to protect skin and eyes
from dust, safety showers and/or eye wash should be available.
Do not leave food or smoke in work area. Wash thoroughly and remove
or clean any contaminated
clothing.
Exposure guidelines: None Established
